2019 Run Houston! University of Houston Event Canceled

Due to the historic rainfall and catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Imelda, we are sorry to announce that the 2019 Run Houston! University of Houston race scheduled for this Sunday September 22nd must be canceled.  We made this difficult decision based on two factors:
 
1.  University of Houston Campus Closure: The University of Houston made the decision to close campus today (Friday 9/20), and keep campus closed through the weekend.  This means that only essential personnel will be allowed on campus and all events scheduled for this weekend (our race included) are therefore canceled.  We worked late last night and early this morning to ensure that there was nothing we could do to keep the event as scheduled, but we do respect the University’s decision.

2.  Safety:  Your safety, as well as the safety of our volunteers and crew, is our number one priority.  With the already dangerous road conditions, and more uncertain weather over the next 48 hours, we have a responsibility to ensure that runners are able to safely travel to and participate in any event we hold.  The current situation in the Houston area does not allow that.   
 
What does that mean for registered participants? Our standard policy is that we do not offer refunds for events, and the nature of putting on a running event is that substantial costs are paid out in advance of race day.  That being said, we understand this is a unique scenario, and we have been working hard this morning to recoup costs for anything we can in order to offer all registered participants options in which you can decide what is best for you. Below you will find two options, and we ask you to fill out THIS FORM by Tuesday 9/24/19 to choose your selection:

 
-Option #1 – Transfer Your Registration to the 2019 Virtual Race:  You have the option to transfer from the live 5K, 10K or Kids 1K event into the 2019 Virtual Race at no additional cost to you.  See details on what our Virtual Race entails on our website HERE.  After completing your race virtually, you will be mailed your 2019 event shirt and finisher medal, and you will be counted as a finisher of the 2019 event.  With the recognition that some of you may be dealing with flood-related issues, we are extending the normal virtual results submission process.  All runners in the 2019 Virtual Race will have until Sunday, October 6th, 2019 to submit results.   For anyone who has already participated in the first 3 events of the year (Sam Houston Race Park, Minute Maid Park, Clear Lake) and is on track to become a 2019 Series Finisher, you must choose this option to continue to be eligible for being a 2019 Series Finisher. 
 
-Option #2 – Partial Deferral Of Your 2019 Registration: If you choose not to transfer to the 2019 Virtual Race we are offering an option to partially defer your 2019 entry, which will allow you to register early for next year’s 2020 Run Houston! University of Houston event at a 50% discount off of early registration prices.  By choosing this option you will not receive your 2019 shirt and medal, and will not be counted as a finisher of the 2019 event. 
 

Anyone who does not complete the form prior to the cutoff on Tuesday 9/24/19 will be automatically transferred into the 2019 Virtual Race. For anyone who was already registered for the Virtual Race, you do not need to take any action.  Please note: You are making an individual selection on the form.  If you registered multiple people for the event, you will need to fill out the form for each individual participant.
